The Island
Instructions: Build a level on a post-apocalyptic island, with three areas:
-
The beach, wild and covered by ruins
-
The swamp, oppressive and suffocating
-
The abyss, deep and threatening

For each area, create four ambiance sounds, two loops and two "one-shots".
Then script the sounds and place them in the level.

Constraints:
-
Loops: 35 seconds maximum
-
"One-shots": 8 seconds maximum
-
Ambiance sounds only, no music or footsteps
-
The two loops must be seamless (the player can't hear the cut)
-
The "one-shots" must be randomly played (every 10-30 seconds) and must contain pitch variations
-
When the players moves from one area to another, the sounds must fade to make a seamless transition
Realization: The level was built in Unity. The trees, grass and water come from the Unity Standard Assets, the environment assets (buildings, ruins and debris) were downloaded in the Unity Asset Store, and I used Aura to create volumetric lighting. All sound were mixed in Adobe Audition.

The FPS controller script comes from Unity, the sound manager and underwater fog are home-made scripts.

-
For the beach area, I wanted to remind the nature who took back her rights: old buildings and metal plates grating with the wind, and birds established in the trees.
-
The swamp is classic: the fog reduces the visibility, the presence of damaged containers suggests its origin and maybe its toxicity, we can hear frogs, snakes, and sometimes the thunder.
-
The desired atmosphere for the abyss wants to make the player feeling the huge water mass surrounding him, and the invisible and threatening lifeforms roaming in the deep.
