Transformers : Seekers of the Forge

Presentation

I participated to the Global Game Jam 2020, which had the theme of "Repair". We decided to go for the Transformers universe, because of the omnipresence of mechanics and robots.

Our team included two Narrative Designers and one Programmer, so we didn't have the time and the resources to make a game with very refined visuals. We choose then to make a text-based narrative game, with two diversifiers:

  • Don’t touch my Dice - some of the story path of the game must be decided by entering the results from rolling a number of a real life D20s.

  • De-squintify - Text size can be changed by players, or is at least 28px height by default.

Our team

 

On this project, I was a Narrative Designer. Alan Roblédillo and I built the entire script, narrative choices and skills to be tested on a dice roll. I then wrote the entire script and dialogues, Alan translated them into English and Armand Leclerc incorporated them into Unity, as well as the mechanics related to the diversifiers.

Synopsis

The war between Autobots and Decepticons is at its climax to regain control of Cybertron. Their best hope: to seize the Forge of Solus Prime, capable of creating everything from anything, but only manageable in the hands of a Prime. Megatron, the cruel leader of the Decepticons, has desecrated a Prime's tomb to seize his powers and now covets the Forge.

He then launches his army on the trail of Technos, the mythical planet where the artifact is hidden. While spying on enemy communications, the Autobots discover that the Decepticons have finally uncovered its location, and a race against time begins to define the fate of the universe.
